The Frostrune

The Frostrune is a classic point-and-click adventure inspired by Viking myth and legend, based on historically accurate Norse culture and environments. The premise: you find yourself shipwrecked on an island after a summer storm. A nearby settlement was recently abandoned, with signs of panicked departure. Dark dense forests surrounding the village are filled with ancient rune stones and burial mounds.

The developers took extra care to make the game culturally and historically authentic. Old Norse speech (with subtitles) is used throughout, objects are faithfully recreated from archaeological sources, and elements from genuine Norse myths and folklore drive the supernatural beats rather than generic fantasy creatures. The runic puzzles in particular draw from real period inscription patterns.

Gameplay runs 2 to 5 hours through hand-painted environments scored by an original Viking-themed soundtrack. Puzzles involve collecting objects, decoding rune patterns and piecing together what happened to the village's inhabitants. Hidden relics across the island gradually unlock the secrets, and the mystery's resolution touches both the practical and supernatural sides of the world.
