About Acquitted

Acquitted opens at the courthouse. Congrats — you've just been acquitted of self-defense charges. Time to go home. The problem is the mob waiting outside is even bigger and angrier than the one that tried to kill you in the first place, and the only way back is through. The game's premise is uncomfortable on purpose, and the gameplay underneath is a serious twin-stick shooter built around fully destructible, randomly generated maps.

Up to eighteen weapons and items handle defense across one hundred levels. Controls are intentionally simple — WASD plus mouse — so the game takes less than a minute to learn, but the difficulty and strategic complexity rise steadily across the run. The early game is about target priority; the late game is about anticipating coordinated attacks from multiple directions simultaneously.

The AI is the surprise. Small enemies swarm with melee weapons, throw bricks and bottles from range, work in coordination from multiple angles, find complex paths around obstacles, and break through barricades when they have to. They blind you with foul substances, throw molotovs to control your movement across the map, steal your weapons, and jump-kick you to push you out of cover. Combined enemy strategies — used simultaneously — produce situations the player has to read live rather than memorize.

Larger enemies are rare but devastating. Some can grab and one-shot you. Some bulldoze through walls. Some serve as meat shields for the small ones advancing behind. They can't fit through small openings, which makes barricades a real tactical option — but they don't sit politely in doorways either. They look for bigger openings, find cover, or circle your position while the swarm pushes inside. Their bodies stay on the map after death, blocking paths or providing cover for either side. Base-building and turret defense elements give you something to do between waves; hand-drawn artwork and original music carry the satirical tone.
