About Akane
Akane is a one-arena cyberpunk arcade slasher set in 2121 Mega-Tokyo, where the protagonist Akane has run out of escape options and is preparing for her final battle against the Yakuza on the rain-soaked neon streets. The gameplay is simple and uncompromising: take out as many enemies as possible, slashing with your katana and shooting with your sidearms, in a fight where one hit kills both your enemies and you.
Five enemy types layer into the encounter design. The Yakuza Guy is the basic pawn that appears constantly. The Tank is the only enemy that doesn't die in one hit. The Shooter is a cybernetic Yakuza marksman who never misses. The Cyber Ninja has abdicated his body to become a killing machine, with a deadly dash and a defence that seems almost impenetrable. The boss, Katsuro, is Akane's nemesis and evolves according to the number of times you've already killed him.
Five equipment slots customise your loadout: different guns, katanas with unique abilities, cigarettes that change the aesthetics of Akane's special abilities, gadgets for combat improvements, and boots that change how she dashes and moves. Two samurai skills sit at the centre of the action — Dragon Slash, a directional dash that kills every enemy in its path, and Dragon Slayer, a screen-clearing finisher. Pedestrians and neon advertisements flicker through the arena's lights and shadows, giving the rain-soaked scene the kind of cinematic atmosphere that turns a one-arena game into something worth replaying for the high score.
