Ascension to the Throne

Ascension to the Throne is a turn-based strategy game with RPG elements set in a vast fantasy world. You play the last offspring of the ancient Illiar family that ruled Eden for ages. Traitors attacked the castle, slaughtered the prince's family, and destroyed the settlement, but a powerful spell threw the hero far beyond the country's borders. Alone, without relatives, friends, army, or money, the surviving prince chooses the path of vengeance.

Gameplay combines real-time movement around the open game world with turn-based tactical battles. Large-scale battles support up to 22 squads with up to 16 units in each. The world is integral rather than mission-segmented: players are free to go in any direction and explore at will.

The original concept casts the hero as the player rather than an off-screen commander. Instead of giving orders from safety, you participate in battles directly, and losing your hero in the heat of combat is a real risk. Crush hordes of enemies, find new followers, and ascend to the throne.
