About Cat Goes Fishing
Cat Goes Fishing is a casual fishing sandbox by Cat5Games where you start on a small island with a basic rod and slowly work your way up to becoming a radar-wielding master fisher-cat with a fleet of boats and rods specialised for every situation. The progression curve is the central appeal — every new piece of gear opens up access to different parts of the sea and different species of fish that weren't previously catchable.
The core hook is that each fish species has its own behaviour pattern. Some are skittish and require subtle bait; some are aggressive and chase moving lures; some are massive and have to be fought across long tug-of-war sessions while you manage line tension. Learning these patterns is most of the long-term game, and tailoring your rod with upgrades — line strength, reel speed, weight, lure type — to suit your preferred fishing style is what turns a frustrating outing into a productive one.
Quests provide goals beyond pure collection, with cash rewards that feed back into new rods, new boats, and access to deeper waters. Hats — found rarely throughout the world — dramatically change the dynamics of how the cat fishes, and finding the right combination of hat, rod and bait is part of the game's hidden depth. The catalogue fills out as you catch each new species, and what lurks in the dark depths beneath your starting island is genuinely a question the game holds back as a reward for players who push their gear far enough to reach it.
