Colony Ship is a turn-based party-based RPG set aboard a generation ship launched to Proxima Centauri in 2754. Inspired by Heinlein's Orphans of the Sky, your character has never seen Earth and never will see Proxima either. After a violent mutiny ended the original government, you must navigate a treacherous path among contentious factions striving to dominate the Ship, with friends and enemies determined by your choices. The game's core systems support a skill-based character with no classes. Combat is difficult: outnumbered, outgunned, and demanding control of Accuracy, Evasion, and Damage (dealt and taken). Stealth uses a detection model based on guard perception and thermal vision, with noise generated by every action. If you avoid combat entirely, Persuasion, Streetwise, and Impersonate let you talk through almost everything. Stats, skills, reputation, deeds, and choices all track consequences. Ten party members (max party size 4) and well over a hundred characters populate the Ship's many locations: the Pit (a sprawling cargo-container shantytown), Hydroponics (overrun mutant jungle), the Armory, Mission Control wreckage, the Shuttle Bay, the Factory. Multiple major factions (Protectors of the Mission, Brotherhood of Liberty, Church of the Elect, People of the Covenant, the Pit's Freemen, and more) each claim their own truth about the Ship's purpose.

Fuga: Melodies of Steel is an RPG from CyberConnect2 set in a Europe-analogue world torn apart by the fascist Berman Empire. The story opens with a peaceful village burned to the ground and most of its inhabitants taken prisoner. Eleven child survivors band together in the aftermath and find Taranis — a gigantic tank from an ancient, technologically advanced civilization — and decide to use it to rescue their families. None of them are old enough to be doing this, and the game never lets you forget it. Combat takes place inside the tank. You position the children at different gun turrets according to their individual skills and personalities, with each child contributing differently depending on which weapon they operate. The tank itself functions as a mobile home between battles, where the children develop affinities with each other through shared moments, conversations and small acts of care. Managing the relationships is as important as managing the weapons — emotional bonds directly affect what the children can do in combat. The Soul Cannon is the game's central dilemma. Taranis houses a forbidden weapon capable of immense destruction — but firing it requires the life of one of the children as fuel. The story regularly puts the player in situations where the Soul Cannon is the most reliable path to victory and asks whether you'll use it, who you'll sacrifice if you do, and what that decision costs the survivors afterward. Many choices throughout the campaign carry this same shape: the safest road may not be the right one, and the easiest answers usually have the highest moral price.

Combat is tactically rich on large maps with multiple environmental factors. Ram enemies onto spikes or off high cliffs. Shield allies and counterattack when struck. Position archers for ranged support while melee units engage. Execute combo attacks coordinating multiple party members. The hand-drawn art style covers characters, monsters, objects, world map and battlefields. The unique progression mechanic: extract skills and traits directly from defeated enemies and apply them to your units. Pushing enemies on critical hits, retaliating when struck, avoiding lethal strikes, lifestealing counterattacks, and many other custom abilities transform character roles. Characters also learn skills by executing specific battle actions, rewarding attentive play. A procedurally generated campaign with no classical fantasy creatures (no elves, dwarves, dragons) maintains the harsh tone.

Wargroove is a richly detailed return to retro turn-based combat, a strategy game for up to four players. When war breaks out in the Kingdom of Cherrystone, the young Queen Mercia must flee her home, and the only way to save her kingdom is to travel to new lands in search of allies, meeting friends and sinister challenges along the way. Commanders are at the heart of the game, with a vibrant cast of 12 or more characters across four warring factions: the Cherrystone Kingdom, Heavensong Empire, Felheim Legion and Floran Tribes. Each commander can unleash a unique ultimate move called a Groove once their meter fills to 100%, and every Groove changes the battlefield in an entirely different way. A campaign mode follows the inexperienced young Queen through animated pixel-art cut-scenes and dynamic battles. The game is easy to pick up but deep to master, and it puts powerful creation tools in your hands: in-game editors let you craft custom maps, cutscenes and story-driven campaigns with sub-quests and plot twists, then share them online or download other players' creations. It also offers local and online multiplayer skirmishes with competitive and co-op play, an Arcade mode of quick successive bouts, a Puzzle mode where you must win in a single turn, and secrets and unlockables. The free Double Trouble expansion adds a co-op campaign and the roguish Outlaw faction.

Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition is Beamdog's careful restoration of the 1999 Black Isle Studios CRPG, made in partnership with original lead designer Chris Avellone. The source game won RPG of the Year from multiple outlets at launch and has spent the years since accumulating a reputation as one of the strangest and most literary entries in the genre's history. The Enhanced Edition preserves that game while adding modern interface and convenience features. You are the Nameless One, a hulking figure covered in scars and tattoos collected over countless lives — none of which you can remember, all of which are now coming back to haunt you. The setting is Planescape itself, the Dungeons & Dragons multiverse, with the city of Sigil — the City of Doors, ruled by the enigmatic Lady of Pain — as the central hub. Portals throughout Sigil connect to anywhere in existence if you have the proper key, demons and devas mingle openly with mortals, and the word is genuinely mightier than the sword. The companions are the strangest party in any RPG of the era. A floating skull named Morte who keeps your secrets; a chaste succubus who can kill with a kiss; a confused crossbow-wielding cube; a suit of armour animated by a spirit demanding JUSTICE — among others. The 50+ hour campaign branches across class changes, alignment shifts, philosophical commitments, and a central question — "What can change the nature of a man?" — that the writing returns to in many different forms. The Enhanced Edition adds a 4K interface rebuild, remastered music, tab highlighting, area zooming, combat log, quickloot, plus the option to toggle these features off and play the game in its original presentation.

Shogun Showdown

Shogun Showdown is a turn-based combat game wrapped in roguelike and deck-building conventions, designed around a much tighter spatial layer than most of its peers. Combat plays out on a single horizontal lane, where you and your enemies move and act on alternating turns, and every action — attacks, movement, defensive plays — comes from tiles drawn from a small hand. The whole challenge is positional: you have to be in the right spot at the right time, with the right tile ready, while the enemy is doing the same thing on a parallel timeline. The deck-building layer sits on top of that core. As you progress through a run, you upgrade attack tiles into more powerful variants, combo them together to unlock chained sequences, and pick up new skills that broaden the strategic palette. Some upgrades change tile mechanics in ways that ripple across your whole loadout; others reward specific tile combinations the game gradually teaches you to recognise. By the time you face the Shogun at the end of a successful run, your deck is doing things the starting hand couldn't approximate. Death isn't the end of the game — it's the start of the meta-progression. Each completed or failed run unlocks new characters, attack tiles, skills and run modifiers that broaden the option pool for subsequent attempts. The pixel art draws on Japanese setting cues without leaning too hard on them, the music supports the turn rhythm rather than competing with it, and a single run lands between fifteen and forty minutes depending on how deep your build carries you.

Armies in Symphony of War are composed of squads of up to nine soldiers, drawn from over fifty unit classes — heavy infantry, archers, shock cavalry, medics, arquebusiers, dragons, battle mages and more. You position squads on a strategic map, exploit high ground, woodland ambushes and chokepoints, deal with weather effects like blizzards and heat waves, and break enemy morale or shatter chains of command by eliminating squad leaders. Engagements themselves play out automatically once the orders are set, which puts the focus on planning rather than execution. Between engagements sits a full logistics and progression layer. You outfit squads with looted equipment and artifacts, decide whether to nurture conscripts into elite veterans or hire mercenaries for immediate firepower, and push specialisations through a faction tech tree. A dynamic relationship system tracks bonds between characters, unlocking iconic conversations and combat bonuses, and the central plot — heavy with malice, betrayal and ambition — leans on those relationships as much as on the larger geopolitical structure of Tahnra.

Wildermyth

Wildermyth is a tactical RPG modelled on the rhythm of a tabletop campaign rather than a single fixed story. You lead a band of procedurally generated heroes who start out as reluctant farmers, age across the length of a playthrough, fall in love, argue, transform, and eventually retire or die — and the game treats every one of those moments as a permanent change to who they are, not a stat tweak. The setting, the Yondering Lands, sidesteps standard fantasy furniture entirely: no orcs, elves or goblins, but telepathic insect-dragons, clockwork undead and other less familiar threats. The world is rendered as hand-painted 2D papercraft, with characters and scenery cut and pasted into each scene like illustrations from a storybook. Encounters carry consequences that follow the cast across campaigns — a deal with a wolf god might leave a hero permanently changed, a fight might leave them maimed, and your choices nudge each character along their own arc. Combat is grid-based tactical work built around walling and flanking, with mystical interfusion letting you reshape the battlefield using nearby objects — a lamp becomes a fire weapon, a tree becomes cover. Multiple difficulties cover the range from light to punishing. Cooperative multiplayer supports up to five players sharing custom heroes across a campaign, and dead favourites can be retired into your personal pantheon and re-recruited into later playthroughs, building up a private mythology that persists between runs.

The Last Spell

The Last Spell sets up an apocalypse with deliberate framing. The mages of the world ended decades of war by detonating The Cataclysm — massive balls of pure magic that obliterated nearly everything and left a purple mist that spawns mutated horrors at night. The only path back is to cast The Last Spell, banishing magic from the world entirely, which requires uninterrupted incantation over multiple in-game days. Your heroes are the strained few who keep the mages alive long enough to finish. The loop alternates two phases. By day, you prepare: position defenses, rebuild the Haven, equip and level up your heroes, forge weapons, recruit more fighters. By night, you fight off waves of attackers in tactical turn-based combat where every Action Point decides whether the wall holds. Heal scarcity and mana scarcity make resource discipline as important as positioning. The build space is wide. Stats, skills, perks, traits, items, weapons, trinkets, potions, and stackable Omens that grant per-run bonuses combine into the kind of depth roguelite players come to expect. Five different Havens carry different setups and challenges, six Apocalypse difficulty levels scale up for veterans, and a 25-track progressive-metal soundtrack by Rémi 'The Algorithm' Gallégo gives the night fights their pulse.

TROUBLESHOOTER: Abandoned Children is the first season of a long-running Korean tactical RPG by Dandylion, set in the free trade nation of Valhalla — established by three world powers after a global war and prohibited from maintaining an army by the same powers. Crime fills the vacuum the absent military leaves behind, and ten years into the experiment the government grants ordinary civilians the legal right to investigate and arrest criminals. The people who take up that work are called Troubleshooters. You play Albus, a 20-year-old who becomes an official Troubleshooter and slowly assembles a small company of colleagues across the campaign. Each new recruit brings their own motivations, history and unlockable side content — a hunter character lets you tame beasts; an engineer lets you craft drones; specialised classes branch the available toolkit into directions a single protagonist couldn't possibly cover. More than 100 unique missions and over 500 cut scenes flesh out the story, with each mission designed independently rather than reusing template scenarios. The mastery system is the game's deepest mechanical layer. Over 1,000 masteries and more than 500 additional masteries form the build space, with each character acquiring masteries through level-up and — distinctively — by taking them from defeated enemies. Each character has a unique class with rank-up paths to upper classes that change their battlefield role, giving you the kind of role customisation the SRPG genre traditionally only offers at recruitment.

Ash of Gods: The Way is a story-led card-combat tactics game where you assemble strong decks of warriors, gear and spells pulled from several factions. You battle across a run of grand tournaments, every one bringing its own foes, arenas and even rule sets, earning new cards, upgrading favorites and combining them into any number of decks. Key battles must be prepared for carefully, since losing one will twist the story onto a different path. You play Finn, whose homeland faces invasion from a neighboring power. His one chance of heading it off is to learn the card game that nation uses to drill its nobles in the craft of war, a game called the Way. Slip into their tournaments and you can draw close to their elite commanders, and what he does there is up to you, with every decision carrying consequences. Along the journey you meet new characters, hold conversations and make choices that affect the fate of the entire world. The core rules are deceptively simple. Each turn, you commit a single warrior and a single support card, after which your units march on the enemy and strike where they can, but the depth lies in combinations, deck construction and when to hold a card back. Fighters span heavy front-line brutes, frail archers and supporting casters; gear cards strengthen your warriors while spells help them or hurt the foe. Every battle is a fresh challenge with its own objectives, from capturing checkpoints to one-on-one duels, and there is no penalty for switching cards or strategy mid-stream.

Winter Falling: Battle Tactics is a tactical battle game played in real-time with pause, set in a mythologized Slavic medieval fantasy world. Engagements run as set-piece battles where you command formations against enemy forces; outside battles, you manage a mercenary company across the world map, scavenging supplies, building armies and choosing missions. The campaign tells a branching story across multiple endings. Defeat the threats your own way: burn down a village if it suits you, recruit pacifists, focus on saving a single faction. The mercenary management layer governs whether your troops are well-fed, whether your chest is full, and what your reputation looks like with the various powers in the world. An in-game map editor lets you craft your own battles and share them easily via copy-paste. Modding support is built in, covering custom units, weapons and races. The studio names its inspirations openly: Warhammer Shadow of the Horned Rat, FTL, and Total War mix into a tactical sandbox where small-scale fights matter more than grand-strategy campaigns. About Tactical RPG

Tactical RPG соединяет <b>две школы — RPG и пошаговую тактику</b>. Со стороны RPG приходят статы, классы, экипировка и сюжетная прогрессия команды; со стороны тактики — гексагональная или квадратная сетка, ходы по очереди, ограниченное число действий за раунд и подсчёт линий атаки. Из этого союза вырастает специфический темп: бой длится 30–60 минут, и каждое решение обдумывается с учётом всех союзников сразу. Поверх работают типичные жанровые элементы — система permadeath (потерянный персонаж не возвращается), классы с уникальными умениями, прокачка между миссиями и сценарные развилки. Третий слой — карта боя как головоломка: высоты, узкие проходы, ловушки и враги с разными зонами поражения.

TRIANGLE STRATEGY от Square Enix — современный канон жанра: эстетика «HD-2D» (пиксельные спрайты на трёхмерных диорамах), сложные политические дилеммы и пошаговые бои с реальной разницей в высоте между клетками.
