About Costume Quest
Costume Quest started as a side project at Double Fine and grew into the studio's first full game outside of LucasArts-style adventures. The setting is Halloween night in Auburn Pines: bickering twins, a costume mishap, an alien race called the Repugians who mistake one of the twins for an actual giant talking candy corn, and a kidnapping that turns trick-or-treating into a rescue mission.
The gameplay is turn-based RPG with one central conceit: in combat, the costume each child is wearing transforms them into a literal larger-than-life version of it. The robot costume becomes a working robot. The knight is an actual knight. The unicorn is a fully unicorned unicorn. Each form has unique abilities, and battle stamps modify them like equipment.
Three neighborhoods, each beautifully designed in Double Fine's signature humor and visual style, host the campaign — suburban streets, a mysterious village carnival, and a monster-infested shopping mall. Tasha Harris, the studio's lead animator, designed the project. The PC version ships with the Grubbins on Ice DLC pack included for free, extending the story into a winter campaign on the monster homeworld of Repugia.
