About Down the Rabbit Hole
Down the Rabbit Hole is a VR adventure set in Wonderland before Alice ever arrived, telling the story of a different girl who fell down looking for her missing pet, Patches. The framing puts the player in the role of an outside guide rather than the protagonist directly — you don't control the girl through traditional VR locomotion, you observe and influence her journey through Wonderland by interacting with the world that surrounds you.
The presentation is the game's most distinctive feature. Each scene is rendered as a 360° diorama that wraps around the player in VR, with the action taking place inside it like a doll's house come to life. You plot the girl's path through the diorama, choose which way she goes at branching points, and watch the journey unfold from a perspective no traditional adventure game can offer. The geometry of the diorama itself becomes part of the puzzle layer, with paths visible from one angle hidden from another.
Multiple playable characters extend the story across different perspectives, with the various corners of Wonderland — both familiar and newly imagined — providing distinct puzzle environments and visual identities. Hidden collectibles reward thorough exploration of every diorama, and the choices you make about the story along the way shape how the journey resolves. The unique VR locomotion model gives the game an unusual readability for the medium, sidestepping the motion-sickness pitfalls of more traditional first-person VR adventures.
