Hero of the Kingdom

Hero of the Kingdom is the game that started the Lonely Troops series, a casual hybrid of point-and-click adventure and lightweight RPG with no combat to manage manually. Bandits burn your farm and abduct your father, and the journey to find him takes you across a kingdom of woodland villages, harbor towns, and bandit-haunted forests.

The loop is gathering and exchange rather than fighting: pick herbs, hunt rabbits, fish in rivers, sell what you gather, buy what you need for the next quest. Hundreds of hidden items dot the hand-painted scenes, and finding them rewards careful looking rather than reflexes. Skills like Perception and Strength gate certain quests but level up through the items and trainers you find.

The whole thing runs on an isometric storybook style — pastoral, calm, and short enough to finish in an evening or two. Thirty-eight achievements give completionists a reason to comb the map; everyone else can simply move from quest to quest at their own pace.
