About Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
Eidos-Montréal's take on the Guardians of the Galaxy is a single-player, third-person action-adventure played entirely as Peter Quill — Star-Lord — with Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot fighting alongside as AI teammates rather than playable characters. The story is original to the game, not a film adaptation, and the cast is a younger, scrappier version of the team still working out whether they can stand each other long enough to save anything.
Combat blends Quill's Element Blasters and jet-boot mobility with team commands: you pause the fight to call signature attacks from each Guardian, chain them into combos, and pull off tag-team takedowns that take big chunks out of bigger enemies. Outside fights, the game leans on dialogue choices and decisions in the field, and the consequences of those calls range from light banter shifts to outright structural changes in how the next chapter plays.
The writing carries a lot of the weight, with a heavy 1980s licensed-music backbone (Star-Lord can switch tracks mid-battle for a temporary morale boost) and a cosmic cast that mixes recognisable Marvel faces with original characters introduced for this story. Most of what differentiates it from other licensed superhero games sits in the team dynamic — keeping the Guardians from arguing themselves into a tactical disaster is part of the job.
