About NoLimits 2 Roller Coaster Simulation
NoLimits 2 is the rare hobbyist game whose accuracy is good enough that the actual professionals use it. Roller coaster designers including John Wardley, plus manufacturers like Vekoma, The Gravity Group, Great Coasters International, Premier, Maurer Söhne and Intamin, use NoLimits for layout work, design integration, visualization and marketing of physical coasters. The simulation is that close to the real thing.
The editor is CAD-style — wireframe display, drag-and-drop track and supports, slider bars for perspective adjustment, zoom in and out. The only constraints are the laws of physics and your imagination. Forty different coaster styles are included (4D, Spinning, Wooden, Wing, Flying, Inverted, Suspended and more), with support for shuttle coasters, switches and transfer tracks, dueling coasters with synchronized stations, block sections, backward-running trains and aged wear levels for realism.
Once a coaster is built, you ride it in real-time. The sound design captures wind rush and metal-on-metal clatter. The visuals run on modern tech — normal mapping, specular masks, reflections, realtime shadows, dynamic skybox with day-night cycle, depth-of-field, volumetric light and fog, weather effects. Camera options include onboard, free, target tracking, fly-by and a walk mode with collision detection. Oculus Rift and HTC Vive both have full VR support.
Deeper features fill out the package: scripting language, formula-driven track elements, force vector designer, package file export, high-quality video export with frame-perfect timing, integrated environment editor for skyboxes and backgrounds, and import of DAE, 3DS and LWO files for custom scenery. A free 15-day demo is available with limited features for anyone who wants to try the editor before committing.
