About Outlaws + A Handful of Missions
Outlaws + A Handful of Missions is the 1997 LucasArts first-person shooter, restored on Steam with its bonus mission pack. Set in the Wild West, the game follows former U.S. Marshal James Anderson on a revenge campaign against the land baron Bob Graham and his gang of outlaws, who murdered Anderson's wife and abducted his daughter in a railroad land grab.
The shooter mechanics combine straight gunplay with light puzzle-solving — pulling levers, finding alternate routes, lighting dark spaces with the lantern, occasionally digging with a shovel. Period weapons include revolvers, rifles, shotgun, dynamite, and a Gatling gun in some encounters.
The presentation is one of the highlights. Anderson is voiced by Dan Castellaneta (Homer Simpson), and the gang members are highly stylised characters with distinct personalities and weapons. The animated cutscenes between levels are some of LucasArts' best work outside the SCUMM adventure line, and Clint Bajakian's score leans into Spaghetti Western convention without parody.
This bundle includes the original game and the Handful of Missions pack — the official DLC released after launch, with additional levels for the campaign and multiplayer. The same engine drove Star Wars: Dark Forces, and Outlaws holds up unusually well for a first-person shooter from this era.
