Paper Dolls 2 continues the horror survival adventure of the original Paper Dolls, with Yang Mingyuan exploring the upper floors of the Yin Mansion. Compared to the first game it offers grander scenes, more detailed plot animations and more challenging gameplay, taking a first-time player around 10 hours, across four difficulty modes including a Nightmare mode unlocked only after a first completion.

The story finds Yang Mingyuan jolted awake from yet another nightmare, gripped by terror, the same scene playing behind his eyelids: a rotten old mansion, a gloomy mourning hall, ethereal shadows and eerie paper dolls, and a voice calling to him. Blaming his medication, he sets out to drive his daughter to her mother's place, but on the highway a blinding light and a loud bang give way to silence. He comes to inside an old, abandoned mansion, familiar yet alien, and follows the faint call of his daughter into the darkness.

The mansion belonged to the Yin family at the end of the Qing dynasty, a once-celebrated household whose master fell into seclusion and whose good fortune collapsed into a series of tragedies, until a months-long rainstorm cleared and the mansion had simply vanished from existence. As a first-person horror game, it has you explore the gloomy mansion, avoid and defeat lost souls, survive the restless spirits of those who died with unfinished business, solve puzzles to open a gate sealed for a hundred years, and collect clues that uncover the truth. Headphones are strongly recommended, since sound is key to the story and to sensing hazards.
