About Armoured Commander II
Armoured Commander II places you in the commander's hatch of a World War II tank, leading a crew through one of fifty-plus historical campaigns set between 1939 and 1945. Every combat day generates a fresh procedural map, weather conditions and enemy composition drawn from a roster of over 1,300 historically based unit types — armoured clashes in Poland and Asia, the desert war, Operation Overlord, the Eastern Front, the Pacific Islands and the final drive on Berlin.
The game's design philosophy is survival over destruction. You'll usually be outnumbered and outgunned, and success depends on reading terrain, managing crew, choosing engagements and using every tactical tool the era offers. Combat is turn-based, so you can pause and think at any point. Optional permadeath ties the campaign to your commander's life; the lighter mode lets you replace lost tanks and crew and keep playing through to the campaign's historical endpoint.
The game runs DRM-free, plays offline when needed (Steam-only loss is achievement tracking), supports mods through a Vortex extension or manual installation, and ships with its source code open (assets like portraits and unit definitions excepted). The developer explicitly notes no generative AI was used in creation — a stance that aligns with the project's historical-detail-first ethos.
