Avorion

Avorion is a procedural space sandbox where you start at the edge of a galaxy and slowly work toward its center. A cataclysmic Event a few centuries ago tore an impassable ring of hyperspace fabric across the galaxy's middle, and the strange Xsotan aliens emerged from beyond it. Nobody's been past the ring since. You're going to try.

The headline feature is the ship builder. Ships are made of freely scalable blocks that can be procedurally generated or built piece by piece. They break apart along impact lines in combat — hits to specific blocks destroy specific blocks, leaving asymmetric wrecks rather than abstract hitpoint pools.

Gameplay loops include trading, mining, piracy, faction wars, exploration, and base-building. You can extend your influence by founding asteroid mines and factories that attract NPC traders, hire captains to crew ships you don't pilot personally, and build out a fleet that handles trade routes while you go shoot pirates.

Co-op multiplayer supports the entire game. You can fly a single ship together (one pilot, one gunner) or split into your own ships and coordinate fleets. The galaxy gets more dangerous and more rewarding as you approach the core. From small German team Boxelware — the studio has continued iterating with major content updates since release.
