About Cat Quest
Cat Quest is The Gentlebros' open-world action RPG set entirely in a fantasy continent populated by cats, where the world's structure resembles Skyrim crammed onto an overworld map. You play a cat hero on the trail of the evil Drakoth and your kidnapped sister, with the kingdom of Felingard opening up around you in non-linear chunks of dungeons, side quests and bizarre side characters with cat-themed names that pun harder than they reasonably should.
Combat is real-time and rhythm-based. You close in, slash with a melee weapon, roll-dodge to evade counterattacks, and cast spells — Lightnyan, Flamepurr, Healpaw and the rest — to finish enemies that resist conventional damage. Equipment runs through both stat modifiers and visible cosmetic effects, and the game encourages mixing weapons, armour and magic to find combinations that suit your playstyle, whether that's a robed mage build, a tanky chainmail-and-sword build, or something stranger in between.
Felingard is dotted with locations whose names tell you exactly what tone the writing is operating at — Bermewda's Triangle, the Furbidden Fields, Pawt City — and a long list of side quests fold characters like Mewlin and Meowgan into investigations of magical seals and missing book deliveries. The orchestral score is inspired by classic RPGs, the difficulty curve stays gentle without being patronising, and the whole package runs as a five-to-eight-hour comfort food version of the genre it's affectionately satirising.
