Dealer's Life

Dealer's Life is a retro-styled tycoon game where you manage a pawn shop and haggle with an effectively infinite procession of randomly generated customers. The hook is the trading engine: customers each have unique psychological traits reflected in their appearance, and they react to your offers based on those traits — counter-offer, accept, walk away angry, or impose a final ultimatum.

The twist that defines the game is that item values are never explicitly displayed. You estimate what an object is worth based on your Competence skill, your experience with similar items, and your read of the customer in front of you. No tutorials, no in-game guides, just instinct sharpened by play.

Skill progression layers on top. Spot counterfeits, recognise underpriced gems, and improve psychological techniques to gain the upper hand in negotiations. The game explicitly invites you to be cunning or law-abiding, with different consequences down both paths.

Reputation matters. Random events incorporate your previous decisions — scam someone who turns out to be connected to the local mafia, and the game will remember. The visual style is intentionally retro pixel art, and the loop runs deep enough to sustain very long campaigns.
