Katamari Damacy REROLL is the high-definition reissue of the 2004 PlayStation 2 original, with updated graphics and entirely recreated cutscenes. The premise is the same: the King of All Cosmos, in a drunken stupor, has erased the stars from the night sky, and now demands that you — his five-centimeter-tall son, the Prince — fix it.

Your tool is the katamari, a magical ball that adheres anything smaller than itself. You start by rolling up coins, thumbtacks, and pencils, and as the katamari grows, larger objects become eligible — fruit, then cats, then cars, then buildings, then mountains and continents. The size threshold is the entire game loop, and the satisfaction of crossing each one is the reason the original became a cult fixture.

Keita Takahashi's design wraps the gameplay in an aesthetic of saturated flat colors, abstract geometry, and one of the most distinctive soundtracks ever shipped with a video game. The HD reissue brings the visuals into resolutions the PS2 couldn't hit while preserving the look and tone that made the original irreplaceable.
