About Lords of the Realm II
Lords of the Realm II places you in 13th-century England as one of the feudal nobles competing for the throne. The land is divided, the peasants are oppressed, and the people are calling for a leader. The game expects you to be that leader — or to lose to someone who manages it before you do. The structure is a hybrid the series helped define: turn-based campaign management on the strategic map, real-time tactical battles when armies meet.
The kingdom-management layer is detailed without becoming punishing. Plant crops, collect taxes, build weapons, raise armies, design and construct castles, manage alliances and break them when the situation calls for it. Castle design ranges from cheap wooden keeps thrown up in a hurry to impregnable stone fortresses that take real investment but earn the protection back during sieges. Players who'd rather delegate can hand kingdom administration to their Steward and focus on the wider conflict.
The siege battles are the genre's hook. When you finally bring an army up to an enemy castle, the game switches to real-time and you direct the assault directly — battering rams, ladders, archers on walls, the slow methodical work of overwhelming a defensive position. The view from the defender's side is equally engaging when an enemy lord shows up at your gates.
This Steam release bundles the original Lords of the Realm II with the Siege Pack expansion, adding additional castles, battle maps and scenarios. Up to four players can compete in LAN multiplayer to prove themselves Lord among peers. Internet multiplayer is no longer supported — LAN play remains the only option for human opponents.
