Mortal Kombat X jumps forward two decades from the 2011 reboot, introducing children of the classic cast - Cassie Cage, daughter of Johnny and Sonya, and Takeda, son of Kenshi - alongside new threats like emperor Kotal Kahn. Shinnok and Quan Chi return as the dark engine behind the new conflict, with Mileena scheming to free the fallen Elder God.

The big mechanical shift is character variations. Every fighter offers three distinct movesets and tools, effectively tripling the roster and giving players a tactical choice before each match rather than a single locked kit. Energy-bar moves - X-Rays, EX moves and combo breakers - return alongside environmental interactions inherited from Injustice.

The presentation pushes cinematic spectacle harder than any prior entry. Story mode runs as a feature-length production weaving the playable characters together, and the signature gore is staged with the production value of a horror movie sequel.
