SpellForce: Platinum Edition bundles three titles. Breath of Winter follows a Fial Darg, a Prince of Darkness freed by the Convocation who has taken over the Fire Empire and seeks to bring the Renegades (Gods of darkness) back to Eo. The ritual requires the blood of a first-born Elf, with only Cenwen, the Elf Queen, remaining alive under the ice. Shadow of the Phoenix centers on a dark necromancer using an enslaved god's life essence to reanimate the powerful circle mages as unholy servants, only the Phoenix Stone's power can stop him.

The defining gameplay innovation is the RTS/RPG fusion. You play a hero-avatar whose skills and strengths you can improve, alongside six simultaneously usable races (Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Dark Elves, Orcs, Trolls) and 30+ enemy races. Click'n'Fight controls, multiple magic categories, awe-inspiring 3D graphics with isometric to first-person zoom, and a free-play mode in Breath of Winter let your Avatar develop across any map.
