About Tin Can
Tin Can finds you having only just bailed out of an exploding spaceship, now riding an old escape pod that drifts wherever the cosmos pushes it. You understand none of the pod's tangled systems, so survival comes down to a technical manual and your own resourcefulness, and staying alive is no trivial matter, often turning frantic.
Every system in the pod is made of many linked components, fuses, air filters and the rest, and each one does a job that matters. Over a dozen component types fail in their own way: a damaged button may not respond to a press, a bad connector may fall short on power. You can take apart, exchange and mend anything in the pod, working much as you would on a PC, and trace each fault back to where it began.
Oxygen, carbon dioxide, atmospheric pressure, temperature and radiation are realistically simulated, with survival levels based on real life. There are no health bars, instead you read real medical symptoms, so hypoxia makes you breathe harder, blurs your vision and slows your movements until it finally drops you unconscious. Cosmic events strike too, from a star's surface causing overheating to asteroid fields piercing the hull, so you must plan ahead and react fast.
