About A Sceptic's Guide to Magic
A Sceptic's Guide to Magic is an adventure game from the creator of The Deed and the Space Pilgrim Saga, set in Birmingham, England, in 1993. A shocking ritual murder drags a jaded forensic investigator into a concealed world of witchcraft, gods and demons.
Lester Chapman has worked years of disturbing crime scenes, but nothing prepares him for the dark primordial forces behind his latest case. As he digs deeper, science and magic collide and his rigid view of the world begins to crack. Meanwhile two teenage witches, Fianna and Val, have lost a friend to a bloody ritual killing and will do anything to find those responsible, even rely on a man who barely believes in their powers.
Lester is gradually initiated into arcane mystery, studying a new spellcraft from an obscure tome, gathering ingredients to brew potions and cast spells alongside traditional investigation and puzzles. The point-and-click design recalls the classic LucasArts and Sierra adventures of the 1990s, drawing on the magic and folklore of England as well as ancient Greek myth. You play both Lester and the witch Fianna across nine chapters, with more than twenty spells, over twenty Birmingham locations based on real places, several possible endings and a hidden bonus chapter.
