Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead is a standalone expansion to Arma 2 that brings the conflict three years forward to a new flashpoint in the Green Sea Region. Coalition forces led by the US Army are deployed to Takistan to restore peace and prevent civilian casualties. You enlist into various roles within the US Army — basic infantry, special operatives, pilots, tank crew — across a new story campaign for both single-player and multiplayer.

The simulation realism is the franchise's signature and the headline appeal. Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead boasts what the developer calls the most realistic combat environment in the world — modeled real-world ballistics and round deflection, thermal imaging, material penetration, a real-time day-night cycle, dynamic wind, weather and environmental effects. Built on ten years of engine development at the time of release, the underlying systems are deep enough that real military forces have used the platform for training simulations.

The massive game world is the structural appeal. Three brand-new Central Asia-style large maps cover expansive urban, desert and mountainous terrain, each fully destructible and interactive. Operation Arrowhead also fully integrates with the original Arma 2, combining content from both games for unmatched warfare-simulation scale.
