Star Control II

Star Control I and II — сборник классических космических приключений.

KILL KNIGHT

Teleglitch Die More Edition

Teleglitch: Die More Edition unfolds in a cold corporate future, on a lonely planet at the fringe of inhabited space where a secretive facility researched the reactivation of necrotic tissue. You play a scientist who wakes to find yourself the only one left alive, since the rest of the staff have been killed, micro-chipped and turned into combatants by the central AI that runs the place. It is a roguelike top-down shooter rendered in retro pixel graphics, with maps generated anew each run, so no facility is ever the same twice. You grip your gun, move down dark corridors and step into each room hoping your last few rounds will hold, with permanent death feeding a steady atmosphere of paranoia and dread. The game spans 10 levels that radically restructure each playthrough, over 20 enemy types, more than 40 weapons and items, and a detailed in-game database with dossiers on every monster. Scavenged parts can be crafted into improvised gear like the Can Gun, an empty can, nails and explosives. The Die More Edition adds five bonus levels, extra items and weapons, deadlier enemy AI and expanded lore.

APE OUT

APE OUT is a colorfully stylized top-down smash-'em-up about primal escape. You play a gorilla, captive in some unspecified facility, building unstoppable momentum as you crash through procedurally generated corridors and open areas toward freedom. Your captors are armed; you are large, strong, and increasingly furious. The maths work out in your favor more often than theirs. The combat system is bracing in its specificity. Grab a captor, use them as a human shield, smash their feeble body into a wall, or throw them into another captor in a violent explosion of humanity. Every action has weight and consequence. There are no special abilities or upgrades — just the gorilla, the captors, and a series of rooms that the gorilla intends to leave. The presentation is the second hook. Bold colors and a dazzling perspective frame the escape, with environments shifting visually between sections. The dynamic soundtrack of drums and cymbals responds to your kills — a hi-hat strike for a thrown body, a crash cymbal for a wall impact, the rhythm building as the violence escalates. The audio-visual feedback turns the violence into something that reads less like brutality and more like a percussive composition you're conducting. Procedural generation means every escape attempt produces a slightly different layout, set of obstacles and combination of threats. Tight corridors, open areas, twisting labyrinths and breakable obstacles all rotate. Nefarious traps add danger beyond just the human opposition. APE OUT is short, intense and tonally specific — once you fall into its rhythm, it becomes one of the most memorable action games of its era.

Star Valor

Star Valor drops you into a procedurally generated galaxy where humanity is the underclass under alien rulers. You pick a starting ship, then chase credits any way the game allows: mining asteroids, running cargo between stations, salvaging wrecks, hunting pirate bounties, completing faction missions, or turning pirate yourself. The character system layers experience, skill points and unlockable perks on top of a deep ship customization pool: over 190 equipment pieces, 100-plus ships across fighter to battleship classes, and a crafting system that lets you build weapons from scavenged materials with custom modifiers. Crew and gunner hires let larger ships actually be operated, and signing captains turns you into a fleet commander directing escorts in combat. Six factions push their own agendas across the sandbox, going to war with each other and dragging you in depending on alliances. A main story quest spans the galaxy alongside a procedural quest generator, and a dedicated arena mode strips everything out for combat-only wave runs. Galaxy size is configurable at new-game start.

Blazing Beaks

Blazing Beaks is a roguelite where being too greedy can prove fatal. Set in a bright, charming world, it sends armed birds blasting through swarms of mutants, monsters and other creepy foes, with secrets to dig up, mysteries to unpick and plenty of levels to roam. Artifacts are the central temptation: picking them up brings real consequences and makes you suffer for the power. Story mode is an explosive adventure of hunting invaders and tracing the origin of evil through procedurally generated levels, playable solo or in local co-op. It splits into Normal, Seeded for repeatable layouts, a fresh Daily run to compete on, and twisted Challenges, with ten playable characters whose unique abilities keep the action varied. Custom character mods can be created, shared and played. Tournament mode turns the game into local multiplayer for two to four players, with formats including last-beak-standing Deathmatch, One Gun where everyone shares a random weapon, Drop Hearts, Skull Keeper and a spear-throwing Hunting mode. Randomized levels and loot mean no two playthroughs line up.

Alien Shooter

Alien Shooter is the 2003 top-down arcade shooter from Russian developer Sigma Team that became the founding entry of a long-running series and one of the era's defining horde-shooter templates. The premise is straightforward: a military complex has been overrun by thousands of bloodthirsty alien creatures pouring through teleporters in its mysterious laboratories, and you've been deployed to clear the base at all costs before the invasion spreads. The game's signature scale is the headline feature. Each map contains around 1,000 monsters, with up to 100 visible on a single screen simultaneously, which gives the combat its distinctive intensity even by modern standards. You're given explosives to access the teleporter rooms where the monsters originate, stationary mini-gun turrets to help defend specific positions, and access to the most advanced weapons technology money can buy. Between missions, an arming area lets you equip additional weapons and biomechanical implants that boost your fighting abilities into superhuman territory. The content surface includes 10 missions across the campaign plus a separate survival mode, a male or female playable character, a character upgrade system, nine weapons of mass destruction, and a highly imaginative selection of enemies that ranges from small swarming insectoids to large kinetic threats. Useful gadgets — flashlights for navigating the complex's darker passages, medkits, battle drones — round out the toolkit. A reactive music system adjusts to the intensity of combat, and a red-or-green-blood toggle accommodates the various regional content sensitivities the game launched into.

Greedland

Greedland is a roguelike crossed with survivor-like elements, reminiscent of Crimsonland and Vampire Survivors, where your character becomes a mobile arsenal of destruction as each battle progresses. Built in Unreal Engine 5, it leans hard into the violent spectacle of blood and fire, with high visual fidelity and a relentless soundtrack of gunfire. The loop is pure escalation. Hordes of monsters crash down on you and explode into crimson mist with every shot, while missiles rain, cannons roar and lasers paint the sky. Millions of monstrosities span dozens of levels, and retreat is never the answer, since you blast straight through them. When you are surrounded or low on ammo, deployable Titan Mechas stand ready to crush everything in their path, turning bosses and elite foes into minor speed bumps. At the Armory, your firepower evolves: each Power Armor brings unique upgrades, a vast pool of chips and over 300 upgrades supercharge your combat, and you can mix auxiliary equipment for a different experience every run, even synthesizing ultimate gear. An online co-op system supports two players, with four-player co-op in development.

Army of Ruin

Army of Ruin is an auto-shooter in the survivor-like vein of Vampire Survivors and its successors. You guide one of several legendary heroes through hordes of foes that swarm onto the map, with attacks firing automatically while you focus on positioning and pickup collection. The objective: survive long enough to defeat the fearsome Army Generals waiting at run's end. Each hero has unique skills that can shift the tide of battle when used wisely. Trinkets and equipment enhance and combine to evolve weapons beyond their base limits, with hundreds of possible combinations across the available roster. Levels accumulate through pickups during runs, while between-mission upgrades let you boost long-term progression with rewards earned across plays. Unlock new equipment over time to face increasingly hard quests. Hundreds of challenges populate the long-tail content. The studio designed for a quick, thrilling experience emphasizing simplicity and fun, with each run typically running short rather than the marathon runs some survivor-likes prefer. The auto-shooter genre's central appeal (watching the screen fill with bullets and explosions while you barely steer the action) carries the package.

Follow its trail, reach the Throne Room, and face Chaos directly, but first you'll defeat the elite Sirens and the endless legions under their command across the path to the showdown. Nine playable Gatekeepers cover distinct skills and playstyles. Each one's potential unlocks fully through experience earned over multiple runs, and abilities combine with powerful artifact effects in endless combinations. 100+ collectible artifacts produce game-changing effects, and combining them into Triads scales your combat power throughout each run. Five distinct planets host the campaign, each packed with diverse enemies and powerful bosses. Locations include one of four mission types as their objective, with completion summoning a Siren for an epic battle. Solo play and 4-player co-op both work seamlessly: invite friends to share the power fantasy or run the gauntlet alone.

Neon Chrome

Neon Chrome is a top-down twin-stick shooter from 10tons, the studio behind cult favorite Crimsonland, set inside an arcology — a single massive sci-fi mega-structure where every floor procedurally regenerates between runs. The Overseer at the top of the tower is the goal, and his small army of security guards, lethal assault drones, cyborg soldiers and devastating military robots is what stands in the way. Death sends you back to the start with permanent stat upgrades purchased from your accumulated credits — health, luck, damage, defense, plus over four dozen cybernetic enhancements that range from defensive systems to full-on assault upgrades. The environment is the standout feature. Almost everything can be destroyed with weapons or cybernetic abilities — you can shoot through walls, blow rooms apart entirely, or obliterate whole floor sections while pushing toward the next objective. That destructibility folds back into combat tactics: enemies hiding behind walls aren't safe, but you also can't trust your own cover for long. Before each run you pick from three randomized 'assets' — combinations of class, weapon and ability the game rolls procedurally. A sneaky assassin with mines plays nothing like a robust corp soldier with incendiary grenades, and every asset keeps the permanent improvements you've accumulated stacked on top of its base traits. Local shared-screen co-op supports 2-4 players, a level editor and mod support extend the long tail, and over a dozen weapons plus the perk system mean every run can experiment with a different combination of abilities.

Nordic Ashes Survivors of Ragnarok

Nordic Ashes: Survivors of Ragnarok is a Norse-themed roguelite survivor where you fend off hordes of mythological creatures after Ragnarok. Yggdrasil, the Tree of Life, has lost almost all of its energy sustaining the Nine Realms, and only a few heroes survive the End of the World. You play one of them, defending the remains. The character roster covers 10+ playable heroes including Axeldör (Viking warrior), Thyra (fierce ranger) and Hafgrim (master of the elements), each with exclusive skills and weapons. Constellation Ability Trees handle in-run progression, with character-specific stat trees that shape build directions. Yggdrasil serves as the meta-progress tree, boosting features across runs. Nine maps span Norse mythology's realms, each with distinct enemies and environmental themes. Five game modes include Adventure, Ragnarok, Daily Challenge, Custom and Nightmare. 150+ relics with ascension upgrades feed long-term build expansion. Elites and bosses carry their own AI behaviors, reward shrines offer in-run quests, and character masteries push heroes to their maximum potential. Twitch integration adds streamer interactivity, and 150+ achievements anchor completionist play.

Disfigure

Heat Signature

Heat Signature is a top-down spaceship-infiltration game from Suspicious Developments, the studio behind Gunpoint and Tactical Breach Wizards. You fly a tiny defenceless pod up to a hostile ship somewhere in a nebula full of space stations, dock with its airlock, and sneak inside to complete one of a long list of randomly generated missions — steal loot, assassinate a VIP, rescue a captured friend, or one of several stranger objectives. The central mechanical conceit is that you can pause at any moment and take as long as you need to come up with a plan. The game has a wide gadget catalogue — teleporters, stealth shields, subverters, breach grenades, mind controllers, and many more — and you can switch, aim and fire any of them with zero time pressure, which lets you string together ridiculously clever sequences without ever testing your twitch reflexes. The puzzle is finding the right combination of tools for the situation, not executing them at speed. The campaign progresses by liberating space stations from the empires that control them, with each newly freed station unlocking new gadgets to buy and new challenge characters to play. Every run uses a different randomly generated character with their own personal mission — rescue their brother, steal their gun back, get revenge on their partner's killer — and when a character dies, you switch to a new one in the same galaxy. Modular destruction means ships can be ripped in half, breached into space, or rebuilt around the player's specific approach. Friends-list integration lets you rescue your friends' captured characters and inherit them as playable, plus pass named items between Steam friends as loot.

No Plan B

In No Plan B, the smallest choice can decide your team's fate. You assemble a squad, study a 3D map, and use an innovative timeline system to move and synchronize your operators, coordinating door breaches, grenade throws, and room entries to catch the enemy off guard. One unchecked corner can be fatal, because there is no plan B. Once the plan looks perfect, you press play and watch your orders unfold in real time, dropping into the middle of the action with a full-control camera and cinematic tools. Polished missions can be captured and shared as replays. You pick from four factions, hero or villain, and take on jobs as varied as rescuing hostages or robbing a bank, equipping and tuning gear to fit your style. A multi-path rogue-like campaign asks you to choose missions and rewards on the map while developing your operators and unlocking new weapons, shields, and grenades. For shorter sessions there are skirmish missions and daily, weekly, and monthly challenges, and a built-in editor generates or builds endless new missions to share.

Goobies

Goobies is a top-down auto-shooter with roguelike progression — your weapons fire on their own, leaving you to dodge and position while ever-larger waves of blob enemies converge. Five playable Goobies each carry a different passive ability, and runs revolve around stacking 30+ items (most with multiple upgrade tiers) into builds that escalate from "manageable" to lag-inducing screens of projectiles. Up to 20 game-changing artifacts modify mechanics and visuals between runs. Goobie coins persist across deaths and unlock further upgrades and characters, and an in-game encyclopedia gradually fills in the lore behind the various blobs you've been splattering. Procedural levels and scaling difficulty mean no two runs play the same. Sessions are short, the loop is the familiar Vampire Survivors-derived shape, and the appeal is the snowball — finding the combo that turns the final boss into wallpaper.

Crafty Survivors

Crafty Survivors approaches the bullet-heaven roguelite from a different angle: every hero is a crafter. All heroes got corrupted, so you unlock a diverse cast of crafty professionals and use their unique skills to defend your home from monster hordes. Each character offers different gameplay: a Chef cooking or roasting enemies, a Seamstress patching foes together or massacring them with yarn balls, a sculptor choosing wood or marble for statues. Each stage demands unique builds. Select from a variety of upgrades to create distinct synergies for each character on each run, with over 300 skills across the cast. Toggle individual skills between manual and auto casting to mix automation and direct control however you prefer, and find your own crafty way to survive. Gather materials from enemies to upgrade your village between runs, unlocking new characters and additional buffs that compound across playthroughs. A diverse set of biomes with their own challenges roll out through updates, a Food System adds another customization layer, and Smithing and Weaving systems bring 80+ new passive skills.

Splatter - Zombiecalypse Now

Splatter - Zombiecalypse Now is a top-down shooter explicitly inspired by Hotline Miami and the Resident Evil series, wrapped in a film-noir singleplayer campaign with full voice acting and animated cutscenes. The game runs a substantial 16-level story mode with fully voiced NPCs, dialogues, side missions, bosses and even vehicle sequences, against a backdrop of zombie and monster hordes flooding an apocalyptic city. The tactical layer comes from light and shadow. Zombies fear light, which means using your flashlight strategically can create breathing space in the middle of difficult fights and expose hidden weaknesses on certain enemies. Combat is also gory and physics-driven — bullets, blades and explosions produce top-of-the-line splatter effects, and the environments are destructible enough to occasionally drop resources from shattered objects. Spend the money you collect upgrading guns and unlocking new weapon features, with new qualities revealed at each level of investment. Beyond the campaign, the game runs arcade-style game modes with online leaderboards and a Survival mode for testing your skill against unending waves. Local multiplayer supports up to four players with mixed input devices — controllers, mice, keyboards, whatever you have available will work. The combination of the noir story mode, destructible environments and the light-and-shadow combat layer distinguishes it from typical zombie shooters of its scope.

About Top-Down Shooter
