About Freddi Fish and the Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds
Freddi Fish and the Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds was the original 1994 children's adventure from Humongous Entertainment, the studio Ron Gilbert co-founded after leaving LucasArts. The Steam release runs on ScummVM and preserves the original game across modern Windows, Mac and Linux.
Grandma Grouper's chest of kelp seeds — the food supply for the whole reef — has been stolen, and Freddi and her friend Luther follow a trail of bottled clues across forty underwater locations to find it. The mystery uses standard point-and-click verbs simplified for younger players, with logical inference standing in for combat.
More than 500 secret click points populate the scenes — small jokes, animations, sound effects that trigger when you poke at parts of the screen the puzzle doesn't require. The case has multiple possible orderings of the clue bottles, so two playthroughs of the game can take different paths through the same map. The art style is the same hand-painted cartoon look the studio used across all of Junior Adventures.
