Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is a focused, deliberately short action game built around its psychological subject. Senua, a Celtic warrior in the Viking age, undertakes a vision quest into Helheim — the Norse underworld — to fight for the soul of her dead lover Dillion. She experiences psychosis, and the game's presentation reflects that experience rather than treating it as plot color.

The development process partnered with neuroscientists and people who experience psychosis to ensure the depiction reads as authentic rather than exploitative. The result includes binaural audio of internal voices, perception puzzles based on visual interpretation, and combat sequences where the boundary between Senua's reality and the world around her stays deliberately unclear.

The 2021 update added DirectX Raytracing, NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR support, upgraded materials and particles, optimized performance, and a substantial set of accessibility improvements including full controller remapping and colorblindness settings. Combat difficulty includes a dynamic Auto mode plus manual Easy, Medium, and Hard tiers, and the game can be paused during both gameplay and cinematics.
