Hyper Light Drifter

Hyper Light Drifter casts you as a Drifter — a wandering collector of forgotten technology and broken histories — who happens to be dying from an illness no one in this world knows how to treat. The chase for a cure pulls you further into the Lands of Buried Time, a region where something catastrophic happened long enough ago that the survivors only remember pieces.

Combat is fast and uncompromising. Enemies come in numbers and hit hard, environmental hazards crush anything that lingers, and the friendly characters scattered through the world tend to be quiet about why anyone helpful would still be out here. Branching paths and hidden routes hide upgrades, weapons and new abilities, and exploration rewards anyone willing to push into areas that look pointedly hostile.

The presentation is hand-animated from the smallest background ornament to every enemy frame, and the lack of spoken dialogue or readable language means story arrives only through visual sequences and short ideograms. Most of the world has to be assembled by the player, which is part of why the game lingers after the credits.
