About NEBULOUS Fleet Command

NEBULOUS: Fleet Command commits harder to the 'simulation' side of tactical space combat than almost anything else in the genre. There's no economy management — you arrive in the battlespace with the fleet you designed beforehand, and the fight is the entire game. Every component on every ship matters, every salvo costs something, and the deep, methodical pacing means each engagement plays out as a back-and-forth of thrusts, withdrawals and counter-thrusts rather than a screen full of constant explosions.

Fleet design is where most of the strategic identity lives. You can configure ships across multiple classes — battleships, cruisers, frigates, corvettes — down to specific details like munitions storage, power supply units, electronic warfare capabilities, damage control teams, point-defense layouts, and which missiles sit in which bay. A point-cost system keeps fleets balanced as you compose them, and arrival at the battlespace happens without knowing exactly what your opponent has fielded. Scouting their composition and adapting your plan is genuinely essential.

The combat layer simulates radar, electronic warfare, signal occlusion and ship subsystems individually. Asteroids and gas clouds cast radar shadows that can hide ships from sensors. Electronic countermeasures attempt to jam, scramble or mitigate enemy radar. Multiple ships moving in close proximity produce larger combined signals — and ships can opt to 'run cool', deactivating systems to hide better at the cost of functionality. Damage is modeled per component: a hit to one subsystem disables only that subsystem, damage control teams move between compartments to repair what they can, and a ship with a breached reactor can occasionally be repurposed as an improvised weapon. Extensive Steam Workshop modding adds hundreds of community ships, weapons and maps.
