About Outcast 1.1
Outcast 1.1 is Fresh3D's enhanced version of the 1999 Appeal action adventure that pioneered software voxel rendering. Outcast was one of the first 3D games to offer non-linear gameplay, free-roaming environments, combat against clever reactive AI, excellent voice acting, symphonic music, and 20+ hours of highly engrossing adventure. Cult status among PC gamers followed.
The story: in 2007, the U.S. government sends a probe to an alien world in a parallel universe. An alien life form discovers and damages the probe, causing an energy backlash that forms a black hole threatening Earth. Former Navy SEAL Cutter Slade escorts three scientists (William Kauffmann, Anthony Xue, Marion Wolfe) to recover the probe and stop the threat. Cutter is separated on arrival and hailed by natives as their messiah, the Ulukai.
The 1.1 release recompiles the original source code for modern systems with multithreaded voxel renderer for higher performance, software bilinear filtering on polygonal meshes, redesigned HUD for higher resolutions, new high-resolution sky paintings, a new launcher, native Xbox gamepad support, user-friendly controller configuration, plus bug fixes and stability improvements.
