About Race for the Galaxy
Race for the Galaxy is the licensed PC version of Tom Lehmann's tableau-builder. Each round, players simultaneously select role phases (Explore, Develop, Settle, Trade, Consume, Produce) and resolve them in order. Picking a role triggers a bonus for the chooser, but everyone gets to take that phase's action, so timing other players' picks is half the game.
The deck is the engine: ninety settlement and development cards represent worlds you colonize, technologies you build and military feats you achieve. Cards have dual use, as either content you play to your tableau or as the currency you discard to pay for other plays. Scoring rewards specific synergies, and the win conditions force decisions between development-focused, military-focused, and consume-produce-focused empires.
The digital version supports two to four players over network play, a single-player mode with neural-network-trained AI, five starting worlds and a free New Worlds promo pack with six more. The Gathering Storm and Rebel vs Imperium expansions are immediately available as separate DLC.
