Max Payne 3 picks up nine years after Max Payne 2, with Max no longer a cop, close to washed up, addicted to painkillers and trying to escape his troubled past. He takes a job in São Paulo, Brazil, protecting real estate mogul Rodrigo Branco's family. As events spiral out of his control, Max ends up alone on the streets of an unfamiliar city, searching for the truth and fighting his way out.

The shooting mechanics are cutting-edge for the series. A new cover system gives players tactical options for avoiding enemy fire. Bullet time returns, more polished than ever. Shootdodge and slow-motion finishers retain the franchise identity.
