About Rogue Bit
In Rogue Bit you play as a single bit of computer memory that has become sentient and decided to escape from the digital world into the real one. You invade other bytes around you and modify their values to make your way out.
The game offers several types of puzzles. Exploration lets you XOR into adjacent bytes to navigate through existing data, with the game marking impassable bytes and offering both binary and ASCII views. Deciphering programs uses a built-in disassembler that shows the assembly behind the running machine code, so you can track program logic and manipulate the RAM it reads and writes. You can also trick the CPU into loading you into its registers to affect code execution, and for some puzzles you go further and rewrite the machine code itself.
The game has about 30 puzzles, but some take considerable effort, so it rewards patience and understanding over rushing ahead. Programming knowledge makes it easier but is not required, since the handful of CPU instructions are introduced gradually and everything needed is explained in-game. It is a game about how computers work internally, aimed squarely at players curious about assembly, machine language and computer internals.
