About SteamWorld Heist
SteamWorld Heist takes the universe of SteamWorld Dig and pivots from underground mining into outer space. You command a steam-driven pirate crew in a series of tactical shootouts aboard enemy spaceships — boarding, looting and shooting your way through whatever the rest of the galaxy throws at you, in turn-based combat with one signature twist.
The twist is that you manually aim every shot. Unlike most turn-based tactics games, where attacks resolve as percentage chances, SteamWorld Heist has you control the trajectory of each round directly — line up the shot, account for ricochets off walls and obstacles, and pull the trigger. Skill genuinely matters, and the bullet-bouncing skill shots that result are the game's most memorable moments.
Character progression runs across a small crew you assemble during play. Each recruit gains experience and unlocks unique abilities, and you'll equip them with weapons, upgrades and the obligatory stylish hats that the SteamWorld games have always insisted on. Procedurally generated levels mean each mission's layout is fresh; recurring enemies and biome rules let you bring strategic intent across the variation.
The campaign runs 15-20 hours and unlocks a New Game+ afterward for players who want a harder pass with their leveled crew. The genre balance is unusual — accessible enough that newcomers can pick it up immediately, deep enough that veterans find real challenge in optimizing skill shots and crew loadouts. The soundtrack from Steam Powered Giraffe carries the steampunk tone exactly where it needs to go.
