About Syberia The World Before
Syberia: The World Before is the fourth game in Benoît Sokal's adventure series and the last he worked on before his death. It weaves two protagonists across two timelines: Kate Walker, the New York attorney from the previous Syberia games, surviving in a 2004 salt mine; and Dana Roze, a 17-year-old pianist in 1937 Vaghen whose career is shadowed by the rising fascist Brown Shadow movement on the eve of the Second World War.
The gameplay is point-and-click adventure of the classic Sokal mould — observation, repair of broken mechanisms, lock-picking puzzles, environmental clue-gathering — paced by the slow accumulation of how the two women's stories connect.
Music was composed by Inon Zur (Prince of Persia, Dragon Age, Fallout) and performed by the Budapest Film Symphony, with distinct themes for each character and location.
The game can be played without having touched the previous entries; references to the earlier trilogy are present but the new arc is self-contained.
