About The Swapper

The Swapper is a narrative-driven puzzle game from Facepalm Games set in an isolated, atmospheric sci-fi world — the furthest reaches of space — where you wield an experimental device that fundamentally redefines what "you" means. The device lets you create up to four clones of yourself within line of sight, and swap your entire consciousness into any one of them, leaving the previous body behind as an inert husk.

The puzzles emerge from that mechanic in elegant escalation. Early rooms ask you to use clones as stepping stones, weight distributors, or simultaneously activated pressure plates. Later rooms introduce three colours of light that interfere with the device in different ways — one prevents cloning, one prevents swapping, one blocks both — and the resulting constraint space turns the puzzles into careful, multi-step logical exercises that are never more than a few precise moves away from solution but absolutely require working out the right move order.

The presentation is the game's distinctive visual asset. The art is constructed entirely from clay models and everyday materials, photographed and rendered into a working 3D environment that feels handmade in a way digital art usually doesn't. Narrative writing is contributed by Tom Jubert (Driver: San Francisco, FTL), with a story delivered almost entirely through the environment about identity, consciousness, and the moral implications of the cloning device the protagonist is using to solve problems no one really wants solved this way. The result is one of the more philosophically serious puzzle games of its generation.
