About Tormented Souls
Tormented Souls is a deliberate revival of classic fixed-perspective survival horror — the Resident Evil and Alone in the Dark school of pre-rendered camera angles, scarce ammunition, environmental puzzle locks, and rooms that exist primarily to be feared. Caroline Walker arrives at the Winterlake mansion-turned-hospital to investigate the disappearance of twin girls, and wakes naked in a bathtub hooked up to outdated medical equipment with no memory of how she got there.
The gameplay carries the genre's signature loops. Combat with the dark forces patrolling the mansion is deliberately limited — pick your fights, conserve resources, scavenge what you can find. Puzzles require combining items, deciphering long-forgotten journals, and reading the environment with the kind of patience the modern action-game crowd has often unlearned.
A mirror mechanic adds the project's most distinct twist. Mirrors throughout the mansion lead to an alternate dimension and a different point in time, where the same rooms appear in different states — some intact, some destroyed, some occupied by entities that don't exist in the present. Reality manipulation through these gateways becomes the central puzzle-solving verb, letting Caroline change the past in ways that reshape the present.
