Void Bastards

Void Bastards reframes the first-person shooter as a game of decisions. Inspired by BioShock and System Shock 2, it puts you in charge of leading a rag-tag crew of prisoners, the Void Bastards, out of the Sargasso Nebula, choosing where to go, what to do and who to fight before you ever pick up a gun.

Each raid starts with a plan. Boarding a derelict spaceship, you study its layout, the hazards and enemies you might meet, and the terminals and systems you could turn to your advantage. Inside, every choice matters: detour to the generator to restore power, push into the security module to disable the ship's defenses, and decide moment to moment whether to fight, run, or simply be a bastard. Scavenged supplies become improvised tools and weapons, from a distracting robo-kitty to the dangerously unstable clusterflak.

Between ships you pilot a small escape pod through the nebula, fleeing void whales and pirates while scavenging the food and fuel that keep you alive. The campaign runs twelve to fifteen hours and supplies an endless line of prisoners, so when one dies, another with their own quirks and traits steps up, and any crafting progress carries straight over.
