About A Story About My Uncle
A Story About My Uncle is told as a bedtime story a father is telling his daughter, recalling when he was a boy searching for his uncle Fred — an inventor and adventurer who disappeared without explanation. The boy uses one of Fred's inventions, a powerful grappling hook, to follow him into a hidden world of caverns, floating islands, and creatures Fred had befriended before the boy ever knew about it.
The gameplay verb is the grapple. You swing through environments at high speed, chaining grapples into long arcs across canyons, threading momentum through tight passages, and using a limited-charge jetpack to extend the flow when the grapple alone can't span the gap. The movement feel is the entire reason the game exists.
Gone North's design is consciously non-violent — there are no weapons, no enemies in any meaningful combat sense. Exploration, atmosphere, and conversation with the fantastical creatures living in the underground carry the rest of the game. The art style is distinctive without being cluttered, and the mystery of where Fred went and why he left so suddenly threads through the campaign.
