Backpack Hero

Backpack Hero takes the deckbuilder roguelike formula and shifts the strategic puzzle from what to carry to how to organize it. Every item in your inventory has a physical shape that takes up space in your backpack, and its position relative to other items affects its power. Placing the right item next to the right neighbor can amplify both — find a corner where it really shines and the whole build changes character. The Tetris layer is the real game.

The content is enormous. Over 800 distinct items with ingenious powers and synergies, more than 100 enemies with their own attack patterns, five unique playable heroes each offering different strategic angles, and endless procedurally generated dungeons that produce different layouts, items, events and challenges each run. Standalone runs work for quick sessions; Story Mode delivers the full adventure with persistent meta-progression layered on top.

Between dungeon runs you rebuild your hometown of Haversack Hill, turning it from rubble into a charming and efficient hamlet that attracts new residents. Buying and selling items, conducting research, unlocking new heroes, challenges and quests all feed back into making future runs more interesting. By organizing the perfect village, you gradually restore the world of Orderia and rescue the animals living there. Community mods extend the game further, with full Steam Deck and controller support.
