About Dicey Dungeons

Dicey Dungeons is a deckbuilding roguelike from Terry Cavanagh (Super Hexagon, VVVVVV), with music by Chipzel and art by Marlowe Dobbe. The conceit is that you, the player, are an actual giant walking die — captured by Lady Luck, the goddess of fortune, and forced to fight through her dungeon as entertainment. Each combat round rolls your dice, and you slot the rolled values into the equipment cards you've collected: a five-pip die might power a weapon that only accepts odd numbers, a one-pip die might be wasted on a slot that needed more.

Six playable classes each rework the basic dice-slotting mechanic into something distinct. The Warrior plays it straightforward. The Thief steals random enemy equipment every turn. The Robot gains dice through a push-your-luck blackjack minigame. The Inventor is constantly inspired and must destroy their own equipment after each fight to harvest parts for new gadgets. The Jester and Witch add their own twists. Each class essentially becomes a different game built around the same dice mechanic.

The Reunion DLC — included free with the base game — adds six brand-new episodes that mix the existing classes into new situations and rule variations. The enemy roster ranges from blood-sucking vacuum cleaners to creatures pulled from Irish mythology to suave malevolent snowmen, with a soundtrack from Chipzel that is genuinely one of the best chiptune scores of the past decade. Beautiful adorable artwork from Marlowe Dobbe gives the whole game its distinctive charm, and procedurally generated runs mean the chase for optimization continues indefinitely.
