About Crisis in the Kremlin
Crisis in the Kremlin hands you the Soviet Union during the turbulent Perestroika years and asks how it should end. The game leans into Cold War-era satire, addressing the player as a comrade, but the choices underneath are serious: every political and economic question is rooted in historically accurate detail, and your decisions determine what the USSR looks like by the close of 1991 and beyond.
The direction is entirely yours. Push toward democracy and a free market, try Democratic Socialism, Christian Conservatism or utopian communism, or lean into dictatorship and a cult of personality. You launch Perestroika and try to weather it, then either dismantle the Union or rebuild it into a superpower or a new pillar of democracy.
Day to day, you preside over the Council of Ministers, control the State Planning Committee, conduct diplomacy and intervene in international affairs. The tools at hand stretch from reform and proclamation to repression and outright destruction, and the dark future of the country bends to how you use them.
