About Kingsway

Kingsway is an RPG where the entire interface is presented as a fictional desktop operating system. Enemies and traps appear as popup dialog boxes; your backpack is a file explorer where you organize items into folders; quests come in via email; weapons, potions, and gear are visible icons you can rearrange freely on the desktop.

The mechanic isn't just visual flair — combat actually happens through the popup system. Monsters appear in their own windows, your attacks register in real-time clicks, and managing multiple simultaneous threats means juggling several windows that all want your attention at once. The OS metaphor is the game.

Classes include various adventurer types with different special skills. The world is randomly generated each playthrough, with death being permanent — close enough to a roguelike in structure to count as one, but with the visual presentation skewing the whole experience into something genuinely unusual.

Moral choices appear throughout — help fellow adventurers, defeat monsters honourably, or steal and murder your way up the leaderboard. From Andrew Morrish, the developer of Super House of Dead Ninjas. A single high-concept design choice that turned out to be funny, clever, and surprisingly deep when followed through.
