About Return to Monkey Island
Return to Monkey Island is the thirty-years-later Monkey Island sequel that fans of The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge had given up on getting. Series creator Ron Gilbert returns to direct, joined by co-writer Dave Grossman, art director Rex Crowle (Knights & Bikes, Tearaway), and the original composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian.
Guybrush Threepwood is older now, Elaine Marley has turned her focus from governing the Caribbean, and Guybrush himself remains adrift and unfulfilled having never actually figured out the Secret of Monkey Island. Melee Island is under new management by hip young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison. Stan, the famed businessman, is in prison for marketing-related crimes. The world has moved on, and so the game opens on a contradiction Guybrush is uniquely qualified to resolve.
Gameplay updates the classic point-and-click formula with a modern context-sensitive interaction system, reactive dialog trees, and an easy inventory. The campaign sends you back to familiar islands and out into uncharted ones — Terror Island, the chilling outposts of Brrr Muda — for clever puzzles, devastating ripostes, and the eventual answer to a question the series has been dancing around since 1990.
