About Beyond The Edge Of Owlsgard
Beyond The Edge Of Owlsgard is an old-school point-and-click adventure deliberately built in the visual and narrative tradition of LucasArts and Sierra classics from the 90s, with the specific stylistic touch of Saturday-morning animated cartoons of the same era.
The setting is the animal kingdom of Velehill, where unknown steel-footed shadows have begun crashing through the forest, destroying houses and trees and causing animals to disappear. Finn, a young roebuck, joins his family in the disappearance count and sets off with Gwen the owl to find them — uncovering a dark secret meant to stay buried.
Gameplay is inventory-based puzzles in the classic adventure shape, with a heavier focus on exploration, atmosphere, and uncovering secrets than the genre often grants. Tense and occasionally dangerous situations replace some of the standard adventure-game safety, and the puzzles favour environmental observation and creative item use.
The presentation pairs hand-drawn landscapes and animations with pixel-art character work. Cinematic cutscenes evoke 90s animated movies, and the soundtrack is inspired by classic MIDI-era game music. 6-8 hours of gameplay. The whole package is a tribute to a specific era of children's adventure media that the developer clearly grew up on.
