Mewgenics

Edmund McMillen (The Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy) и Tyler Glaiel (Closure, The End Is Nigh),

ANIMAL WELL

Coloring Pixels

Antichamber

Antichamber is a first-person puzzle game where the laws of three-dimensional space quietly stop applying. The world is built like an Escher print made interactive — turn a corner and the room behind you is somewhere else, walk down a corridor and it loops back to its own entrance, look away from a wall and watch the architecture rebuild itself. Forward progress almost always means doing something that shouldn't be possible. Solo designer Alexander Bruce developed the game over several years, collecting more than 25 awards along the way — IndieCade, PAX10, the Independent Games Festival and Make Something Unreal among them — plus backing from the Indie Fund. The result sits closer to a psychological experience than a conventional puzzle box: short text fragments scattered through the world double as life advice, and many of the lessons the game teaches are about how you think rather than what you click. You explore the entire space seamlessly, without level loads, gradually piecing together a non-Euclidean map that has no business existing. A handheld device that creates and destroys matter becomes your main tool for working around the impossibilities. The audio layer — ambient compositions by Siddhartha Barnhoorn and reactive soundscapes from Robin Arnott — does a lot of the emotional heavy lifting, especially in the stranger rooms. What makes Antichamber land isn't any single mechanic but the cumulative sense that the rules of the game are themselves a puzzle. Solutions tend to look obvious in hindsight and feel impossible until that moment, and the game leans into that asymmetry on purpose.

Super Win the Game

Super Win the Game is a retro-core exploration platformer and the sequel to the 2012 freeware hit You Have to Win the Game. It leans hard into nostalgia, recreating the look and feel of an older era of platforming. The game is open-ended: you explore a massive world, hunt down hidden treasures, collect powerups, gain new abilities and uncover mysterious secrets, with progress gated by what you have learned to do rather than a fixed path. An adjustable CRT television simulator lets you tune exactly how retro it looks, and speedrun courses with Steam leaderboard support let you race your friends' ghosts to the finish. A randomized game mode adds unlimited replayability for anyone who wants to do the thing, get the stuff and win the game all over again.

Colony Ship A Post-Earth Role Playing Game

Colony Ship is a turn-based party-based RPG set aboard a generation ship launched to Proxima Centauri in 2754. Inspired by Heinlein's Orphans of the Sky, your character has never seen Earth and never will see Proxima either. After a violent mutiny ended the original government, you must navigate a treacherous path among contentious factions striving to dominate the Ship, with friends and enemies determined by your choices. The game's core systems support a skill-based character with no classes. Combat is difficult: outnumbered, outgunned, and demanding control of Accuracy, Evasion, and Damage (dealt and taken). Stealth uses a detection model based on guard perception and thermal vision, with noise generated by every action. If you avoid combat entirely, Persuasion, Streetwise, and Impersonate let you talk through almost everything. Stats, skills, reputation, deeds, and choices all track consequences. Ten party members (max party size 4) and well over a hundred characters populate the Ship's many locations: the Pit (a sprawling cargo-container shantytown), Hydroponics (overrun mutant jungle), the Armory, Mission Control wreckage, the Shuttle Bay, the Factory. Multiple major factions (Protectors of the Mission, Brotherhood of Liberty, Church of the Elect, People of the Covenant, the Pit's Freemen, and more) each claim their own truth about the Ship's purpose.

Her Story

Her Story is the award-winning interactive fiction game from Sam Barlow, creator of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Aisle. The premise is unusual and brilliant: you sit in front of a mothballed desktop computer logged into a 1994 police database. The database contains live-action video footage of seven interviews in which a British woman, played by Viva Seifert (actress and half of the band Joe Gideon and the Shark), discusses her missing husband. The clips are short, fragmented, and indexed by spoken word. The gameplay loop is a search engine. You type words into the database and watch the clips where she says them. From the answers she gives, you formulate new searches — names dropped in passing, places mentioned, emotional reactions worth following up — and gradually piece together a story that the game never narrates directly. The same clip can be unlocked from multiple search terms; the order in which you encounter them shapes what you think is happening at every stage. There are no puzzles in the traditional sense. There is no progression bar telling you how complete the story is. What there is, is a single mystery to assemble from raw footage, and an emotional payoff that depends entirely on the connections you make as a player rather than on the game's pacing of revelations. Her Story is unlike anything most players have encountered before — a non-linear narrative experience that asks you primarily to listen carefully, and rewards the work generously.

Terraformers

Terraformers is a turn-based colony builder where you terraform Mars from barren red to thriving green. Send your leaders to mysterious locations to uncover rich resource depots, giant crystal caves, and stunning natural wonders. Found new cities on craters and in lava tubes, growing them to meet rising population demands. Progression draws from a roguelike card pool. Each turn proposes a random selection of project cards, and choosing buildings efficiently (alongside finding strong synergies between them) defines whether your cities turn into utopian metropolises, industrial settlements automated by robots, or something in between. The procedurally generated planet keeps each run distinct. Geo-engineering reaches absurd scale. Restart a volcano, construct giant space mirrors, nuke the poles, plant full-grown forests with bears, or spread adaptive bacteria. Each life form carries specific requirements and provides strategic benefits, so the path from microbe to mammal-sized fauna is its own decision tree. The developers built the game to inspire humankind to become an interplanetary species starting with Mars.

Teslagrad

Teslagrad is a 2D puzzle platformer set in a steampunk reimagining of an old-Europe world, where you uncover the secrets of the long-abandoned Tesla Tower. A young boy is suddenly swept into a forgotten conspiracy involving a tyrant king whose grip on the nation is absolute, and his path runs through the decrepit tower and beyond. Magnetism, together with related electromagnetic forces, drives everything here, and you use it to explore a non-linear world of lovely hand-drawn environments and to manipulate everything around you. The puzzles range from gentle to controller-chewing, and the whole adventure is told without a single line of text or dialogue, the story unfolds purely through what you see, and sometimes what you do not. Carrying the lost technology of the Teslamancers and relying on your own wits, you make your way through the rich 2D surroundings, picking up new items and facing five old-school boss fights. Nothing breaks the flow, no loading screens, no on-screen interface, no cutscenes, and a mesmerizing soundtrack mixes classical orchestra with Russian-inspired touches and bursts of metal and electrical sound.

Esoteric Ebb

Duskers

Duskers strands you as the only living human in a universe that has become a graveyard. You pilot drones into derelict spaceships from your own ship, and the entire interface is a command-line terminal: type orders, parse log outputs, watch the world through whichever drone cameras still function. Motion sensors tell you something is in the next room but not what. Weapons are rare, so survival usually means clever environmental routing: lure creatures with sound, seal them in compartments by venting atmosphere, exploit the ship's own systems against them. A favorite trick stops working when the sensor breaks, the lure runs out, or the camera feed degrades. Adaptation isn't optional. The universe is procedurally generated. Permadeath strips every upgrade on a single bad run, and fuel and replacement parts are scarce enough that even successful operations get you only marginally closer to repairing your own ship. Fragmentary log files scattered through derelicts are the only narrative breadcrumbs explaining what happened to everyone else. Misfits Attic developed; Indie Fund backed.

The Witness

The Witness drops you, alone and with no memory, onto a strange island. You don't know who you are or how you got here, and the only thing to do is explore, searching for clues, hoping to recover your memory and find a way home. It is a single-player open-world game with dozens of locations and more than 500 puzzles. The design treats you as an intelligent player and treats your time as precious: there is no filler, and every one of those puzzles introduces a genuinely new idea rather than repeating an old one. The result is less a puzzle collection than a game built entirely out of ideas.

Blue Prince

Alien Hominid Invasion

Alien Hominid Invasion is The Behemoth's reimagining of Alien Hominid as a roguelite run-and-gun. You and up to three other yellow aliens drop into procedurally arranged neighbourhoods made of hand-crafted city blocks, blasting agents, stealing intel, and pushing toward enemy HQs at the edge of each district. Up to four-player co-op runs locally or online, with per-player difficulty so newer friends can play on Friendly while veterans get hammered on Insane. Two life insurance modes pick the stakes: Mastery Mode multiplies XP and drops but loses everything on death, while Permakeep lets you hold onto unlocks no matter what. Mutations are the long-tail unlock. Destroying enemy HQs grants new mutations — super speed, healing, flight — that stack with weapon and boost combos for build experimentation. The arsenal runs into the dozens of weapons and cosmetics, plus alien heads and equipment slots for character customisation. Levels aren't linear. Sewer Kid Hideouts let you cash out lunch money for upgrades, and Mothership Data redeems for run modifiers (extra ammo, shields, etc.). The hand-drawn Behemoth art style is unchanged from the original — chunky, expressive, slightly grotesque.

Blasphemous 2

Blasphemous 2 brings back the Penitent One — the silent armored protagonist of the original Blasphemous — for a continued struggle against the Miracle, the Catholic-imagery-soaked supernatural force whose dominion over the world is at the center of the series' universe. The story picks up directly from the original game's free Wounds of Eventide DLC, where the Heart in the sky heralded the Miracle's return and foretold the birth of a new miracle child. Awakened in a strange new land, displaced from his final resting place, the Penitent One starts over in a world more openly non-linear than the original. The metroidvania structure is fuller — there's no wrong turn to be made, only scores to settle, and the labyrinthine landscape can be tackled in essentially any order you choose. The atmosphere remains the series' signature: enchantingly grotesque environments, Gothic charm, unforgiving traps, and the kind of religious-horror art direction the franchise made its own. Combat is the most overhauled system. Three new weapons each offer distinct movesets and combat philosophies, with brutal executions and expanded combos. The customization layer goes deeper than the original — base skills can be improved, and weapon choice meaningfully shifts how you handle specific enemies and bosses. Twisted bosses with unique attack patterns and screen-spanning abilities punctuate the campaign, each a test of pattern reading and weapon mastery. The NPC layer adds substantial weight to the world. A bustling cast of mysterious new characters offers aid, asks for it, or sends you on death-defying missions to recover long-forgotten items. The stories, myths and encounters across the game help piece together the deeper lore of the world, and the secret content rewards players willing to do the work. Penance Never Ends — and Blasphemous 2 is the kind of sequel that earns its existence by expanding what worked while sharpening what didn't.

Ash of Gods The Way

Ash of Gods: The Way is a story-led card-combat tactics game where you assemble strong decks of warriors, gear and spells pulled from several factions. You battle across a run of grand tournaments, every one bringing its own foes, arenas and even rule sets, earning new cards, upgrading favorites and combining them into any number of decks. Key battles must be prepared for carefully, since losing one will twist the story onto a different path. You play Finn, whose homeland faces invasion from a neighboring power. His one chance of heading it off is to learn the card game that nation uses to drill its nobles in the craft of war, a game called the Way. Slip into their tournaments and you can draw close to their elite commanders, and what he does there is up to you, with every decision carrying consequences. Along the journey you meet new characters, hold conversations and make choices that affect the fate of the entire world. The core rules are deceptively simple. Each turn, you commit a single warrior and a single support card, after which your units march on the enemy and strike where they can, but the depth lies in combinations, deck construction and when to hold a card back. Fighters span heavy front-line brutes, frail archers and supporting casters; gear cards strengthen your warriors while spells help them or hurt the foe. Every battle is a fresh challenge with its own objectives, from capturing checkpoints to one-on-one duels, and there is no penalty for switching cards or strategy mid-stream.

Whateverland

Whateverland is a hand-painted point-and-click adventure with a branching dialogue system, non-linear gameplay, multiple endings and a unique in-game turn-based board game. You play Vincent, a skilled thief who decides to steal a precious necklace from the mansion of a lonely old woman named Beatrice. The plan would have worked perfectly, but Beatrice catches him red-handed and turns out to be an ancient, powerful witch. As punishment, Beatrice banishes him to a parallel world she created to trap her enemies, a place its first inhabitants simply called Whateverland. Vincent teams up with a charming if slightly annoying ghost named Nick, and together they have to find a way out. Each level can be completed in at least two ways: steal from people, or help them. Rich branching dialogues reveal the world and shape your relationships with the Whateverlanders and with Nick. There is no fixed order of chapters; if you ever feel stuck you can drop your current chapter and move to another, then another. The game features 19 mini-games in total, though you cannot complete them all in a single playthrough, ranging from giving a merman a tattoo and making top-notch ramen to cracking a variety of locks on a thief's path. Your actions decide the ending and what people think of you, all set to music recorded with a real sextet and a beautiful hand-drawn art style.

Deflector is a high-octane top-down rogue-lite that plays out inside a deadly microcosm. The opening Bioshell, the boomerang-slinging Eradicator, is joined by more that you unlock through living and dying in the experiment. Back at the Hub, research modules let you spend combat experience on additional Mutations, new Bioshells and permanent upgrades. Every world teems with its own hostile fauna ready to bury you under bodies and bullets, and every threat is lethal, whether it is the lowliest fodder or the towering Apex Virus that closes out a world. VIVIDLOPE

VIVIDLOPE is built on the conceit that gravity is a suggestion. Cerise, the protagonist, sprints across the surfaces of Vividscape — floors, ceilings, walls — painting tiles as she goes. Each stage demands you cover a target percentage of tiles before clearing, and enemies come at you from every direction the level allows: north, south, east, west, top, bottom. The central tension is planning vs. reaction. You can plot the most efficient painting route in your head, but enemies don't follow your plan, so the game forces constant adjustments mid-run. Powerful items drop from defeated foes and the level itself; spin moves, slams, and dashes form the moveset. Three playable characters carry distinct identities — one defensive, one fast, one offensive — and each handles the same stages with a different optimal strategy. A story mode wraps it all in animated cutscenes and the Atrium hub, where various oddballs hang out between runs. An endless mode strips the structure away for pure score chasing. Rank system, collectible hats, and a stack of extras round out the package.

About Nonlinear

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
