God of War: Chains of Olympus

God of War: Chains of Olympus marks Kratos' first appearance on a handheld platform and serves as a prequel set a decade before the original game, midway through his ten years of servitude to the gods. It keeps the established gameplay of the series while making subtle refinements, with controls adjusted to suit the reduced button layout of the PSP.

Players guide Kratos through varied levels, fighting relentless foes and powerful bosses, solving box-manipulation puzzles and taking part in quick-time events. He gathers red orbs to strengthen his weapons and abilities, collects Gorgon eyes to extend his health and finds Phoenix feathers to boost his magic. The Blades of Chaos return alongside new tools such as the Sun Shield, the Efreet spell and the Light of Dawn.

The story sends Kratos to the city of Attica to defend it against an invading Persian army. After confronting and killing the Persian King and slaying a basilisk, he watches the sun fall from the sky and the world plunge into darkness, and must use his formidable power to fight through the chaos unleashed by Morpheus and rescue the world once again.
