Guacamelee! Gold Edition

Guacamelee! lifts the metroidvania template into Mexican folklore, with Juan Aguacate — agave farmer turned masked luchador — fighting through both the World of the Living and the World of the Dead to rescue El Presidente's Daughter from the skeleton bandit Carlos Calaca. The two dimensions sit on top of each other; you swap between them at the press of a button, with some enemies and platforms only existing in one or the other.

Melee combat is the spine of the design, and the wrestling moves you unlock — Rooster Uppercut, Frog Slam, dash punch — work as both attacks and traversal tools. Late-game platforming sequences chain together dimension swaps, color-coded enemy walls, and three or four different wrestling moves into single sustained sequences.

The Gold Edition includes the El Infierno level expansion, costumes that change Juan's and Tostada's attributes, drop-in/out two-player local co-op, and Steam Workshop support for custom costumes. Steam also gives owners free access to Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, which adds new powers, levels, and improved graphics across the whole campaign.
