About Halo Wars Definitive Edition
Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is the remastered version of Ensemble Studios' 2009 Halo real-time strategy game, ported natively to PC. Set 21 years before Halo: Combat Evolved, it covers the early UNSC-Covenant war from aboard the Spirit of Fire under Captain James Cutter and Sergeant Forge.
The RTS layer is built specifically for controller-friendly play, which is why Ensemble was hired — the studio behind Age of Empires designed a streamlined RTS that fits a gamepad without sacrificing the genre's core decision-making. The Definitive Edition refines mouse-and-keyboard play for the PC release.
Large armies, base management, resource economies, and unit production all carry forward from the original. The campaign's set-piece battles include the Arcadia evacuation and the rim of the Shield World — pivotal events later expanded by Halo Wars 2. Multiplayer supports online competitive battles, with the Steam Network handling multiplayer for this version (no crossplay with the Windows Store edition).
All DLC from the original release is included, plus new achievements and graphical improvements (4K textures, modern resolution support, anti-aliasing options). Easy entry point for players who never touched the original Xbox 360 release.
