Kandidatos

Kandidatos is an indie 3D fighting game built around an unusual conceit: the biggest martial arts tournament in Brazil, contested by political candidates instead of professional fighters. The Kandidatura tournament pits over ten fictional characters, each based on real Brazilian electoral candidates, against each other for the dubious honor of being the toughest political fighter in the country.

Four game modes cover the standard fighting-game spread. Story Mode follows the tournament campaign with character-specific arcs. Online Multiplayer uses peer-to-peer connections for matches with other players. Additional offline modes round out the local play options. The roster is anchored by over 300 character animations across the fighters, each with their own unique audio and quirks, set across scenarios based on Brazilian political environments — committee rooms, plenary halls, campaign rallies reimagined as fight stages.

The AI uses fuzzy logic to adapt to whoever's playing, with the machine making decisions based on the player's skill level to keep matches as challenging as possible. The result is a fighting game pitched explicitly at casual players rather than at the hardcore tournament-level fighting-game audience — accessible, irreverent, full of memes, and openly inviting players to help support Brazilian developers as the project continues to evolve through updates that add more characters, scenarios and game modes.
